Information on Travel and Lodging

Home IU Math Register

We would like to announce that Dusa McDuff will be speaking in colloquium on March 31 and Vaughan Jones will be speaking in colloquium on April 3. All participants are invited to attend one or both colloquium talks. However, we cannot provide funding for lodging the nights of Thursday March 30 or Sunday April 2.

The mathematics department is housed in Rawles Hall, which is located on the north side of 3rd Street just west of the intersection of 3rd Street and Woodlawn Avenue. The red star on this map indicates the intersection of 3rd Street and Woodlawn Avenue. Here are detailed information on travel to Bloomington by plane and car and maps of campus in interactive html and in pdf.

Parking at the Indiana Memorial Union (IMU) lot is free for guests staying at the IMU. Parking in University garages is FREE from 6pm Friday until 7am Monday. During the week, the rate for parking in the Atwater garage (located on Faculty Drive between 3rd Street and Atwater Avenue) is $1.00 per half-hour for the first hour, $1.50 per half hour for the second hour, $2.50 per half hour for the third hour and $5.00 per half-hour thereafter for a maximum of $20.00 per day. However, if you park in the Atwater garage on Friday and donít leave until AFTER 6pm then you should not have to pay a fee. Parking along Bloomington streets is available just west of campus in the downtown area of Bloomington. There is a 2 hour limit during the weekdays 8am-5pm, but there is no limit after 5pm or on weekends.

All participants should arrange their own travel and accommodations (this is contrary to what was previously stated on this page; the change was made because of the large number of participants). Below is a list of some hotels in the area with approximate double occupancy room prices. The Indiana Memorial Union (IMU) is particularly convenient for those who will be flying to the conference because the Bloomington Shuttle runs between the IMU and the Indianapolis airport. Those participants who wish to stay at the IMU must mention that they are with the conference (mention the Math Conference) and should make reservations by March 9. We have a block of rooms reserved at the IMU, which is otherwise full for that weekend, and any unreserved rooms will be released the evening of March 9.

For those participants who will not be flying, cheaper options are The College Motor Inn, the Travelodge, and Motel 6. If you would like assistance finding a roommate, please email us with the nights for which you need accommodation and include whether you would prefer to room with a female or male.

The Courtyard by Marriott, a 15 minute walk from the Math Dept.
The Indiana Memorial Union, a pleasant and convenient hotel on campus. $105/night plus tax for a double.
Travelodge, a less expensive choice on the east side of campus and a straightforward 15-20 minute walk to the Math Dept. $59.95/night plus tax for a double.
The College Motor Inn, a less expensive choice near the town square and a pleasant 15 minute walk from the Math Dept. $60/night plus tax for a double.
Motel 6, inexpensive and about 1.5 miles northwest of the Math Dept. $47.99/night plus tax for a double.
